The Cherokee Indians
first noticed that clothing dyers
using Goldenseal for garments
never got ill. The yellow shirt
wearers were also frequently
spared from common illness.
Through this observation, it was
discovered that Goldenseal was
responsible for their good
fortune. The plant was held in
great esteem and reverence by
their herbal pharmacopoeia. Since
that time, the use of Goldenseal
has spread throughout the world
to relieve not only common
contagious illness, but to rid
the circulation of blue and
blocked veins resulting in
varicose veins. Cold and
bluish lips, hands and feet may
benefit from this function
also. Goldenseal is the
great catalyst herb which will
boss the function of other herbs
with which it is combined. It
will stay on the job, supervising
activities of the work crew, and
will do the job itself if it has
to. Goldenseal exerts its rank
over the injustices of stomach
ulcers, diarrhea, indigestion,
skin eruptions, small pox,
scarlet fever, enlarged tonsils,
sore throat, colds and the
beginning of colds, abuse of
infectious constipation and any
job it is given. It has been
found to effectively reduce
excess blood sugar in diabetes.
It is taken only when needed and
sources of B complex such as
yeast, yogurt, rice bran, and
liver are taken with it to feed
its function and prevent
depletion of the B complex needed
for its work. Goldenseal is in
the heavy duty class among the
herbs of the herbal kingdom and
is truly a herb for all seasons.
